Fundraising

Fundraising is an important event for 3rd Meadowvale, not only to subsidize the programs we run, but also for the experience and fulfillment of our youth.

Apple Day

The Apple Day Weekend is one of two major fundraising initiatives undertaken by our group. Funds collected over the apple day weekend are used to fund all aspects of our program including individual section expenses, camps, and leader development and training. See the Parent Information page for more information on the Group's sources and use of funds.

Apple Day is believed to have originated in 1932 in St. John, New Brunswick. Scouts gave out apples in the fall to raise public awareness of Scouting's presence and mission. The gift of apples was also a fulfillment of the Scout Slogan, "Do a Good Turn Daily". The practice soon spread across the country. In 2004 over 4,000 individual Scout Groups representing over 130,000 youth and adult members canvassed to raise public awareness of Scouting, its mission, and its place in communities, like ours here in Meadowvale.

On Apple Day Weekend our members will be giving away apples to the public in various high traffic locations. Donations are optional, however, most citizens donate funds.

Scout Popcorn - Scouts Canada's National Fundraiser

Get on Board with Scout Popcorn, Scouts Canada's official national fundraiser! Popcorn is great for unexpected gifts, or for sharing with friends and family. Youth sell popcorn because they know the return benefits are great activities; best of all, their group works as a team to achieve their own program goals. With Scout Popcorn, everybody wins! During the month of October, our youth and adult members take orders and payments for a variety of delicious Scout Popcorn products.

Net Proceeds returned to our Group from Scout Popcorn are used to fund camps, group equipment, school permits, uniforms, and both short and long term special events.

Youth who sell in excess of $25 (gross order amount) will be eligible for and entitled to a number of prizes.
