About 3rd Meadowvale Scouts
3rd Meadowvale Scouts was formed in September 1982 by a
small
group of interested parent volunteers.
We began with a Cub Pack and a Scout Troop. In September
of 1986, with
the support of our community,
we expanded by forming two Beaver Colonies and an
additional Cub Pack.
In 1992, in recognition our first decade of community
service,
we were honoured with a Certificate of Recognition by
her Worship,
Hazel McCallion, Mayor of Mississauga.
We currently have two Beaver Colonies, one Cub Pack and
one
Scout Troop.
To understand where Scouting is going in 3rd
Meadowvale, it is
important to understand what we, as Scouters, are trying
to achieve.
Our Mission:
Our mission of Scouts is to contribute to the education
of
young people,
ranging in age from 5 to 26, through a value system
based on the Scout
Promise and Law, to help
build a better world where people are self fulfilled as
individuals and
play a constructive role in society.
This is achieved by:
- Involving them throughout their formative years in a
nonformal educational process.
- Using a specific method that makes each individual
the
primary agent in his or her
development as a self-reliant, supportive, and
committed person.
- Assisting them to establish a value system based
upon
spiritual,
social and personal principles as expressed in the
Promise and Law.
Practices and Methods:
Scouting practices are defined as a system of
progressive self
education through:
- A Promise and Law
- Learning by doing
- Membership in small groups
- Progressive and stimulating programs.
- Commitment to values of doing one’s best,
contributing to
the community, respecting
and caring for others, and contributing as family
members.
- Use of outdoor activities as a key learning
resource.
Our aim and future direction at Third Meadowvale is
examine
any and all ideas, from whatever source,
to carry out this mission and to enlist more caring
volunteers to help
make this vision as reality.
